Complaints Procedure
I hope that therapy will provide a safe and constructive space and we can talk openly if something about the therapy is not working for you. I take concerns and complaints seriously and will treat them respectfully and without prejudice.
Raising a concern
If you have a concern about your therapy or any aspect of the service you have received, I encourage you to raise it with me as soon as possible. Wherever appropriate, I will aim to discuss the concern with you and seek to resolve it informally.
I will listen to your concerns and, where appropriate, discuss with you what has happened and what might help to resolve the matter. This may include acknowledging something that has not worked well, clarifying a misunderstanding, or considering whether changes to the way we work together would be helpful.
If, after raising a concern, you remain dissatisfied or would like the matter to be considered formally, you can make a formal complaint which you may choose to do in writing. I will then consider the concerns you have raised and provide you with a formal response. I may discuss the matter with my supervisor, maintaining your confidentiality as far as possible and only sharing information where there is a legitimate professional or legal basis for doing so.
If your concern cannot be resolved
If you are not satisfied with my response, or if you do not feel able to raise the matter directly with me, you can contact my professional registration body, the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) https://www.psychotherapy.org.uk/ukcp-members/complaints/how-to-make-a-complaint where you can make a complaint and learn about the complaints process.
If your concerns are about the handling of your personal data these are dealt with separately under my Privacy Notice which explains your rights under UK data protection law. The Privacy Notice explains how you can raise concern about the handling of your personal data, including your right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/
I will cooperate fully with any complaint or professional conduct process and will not treat a client adversely because they have raised a concern or complaint.
